This trip is a meaningful one for me because it is the first time I've really gone overseas a) without my parents, b) to countries other than Singapore and Brunei where I grew up in, and c) on my own expenses. Excuse me while I feel grown up being able to pay for my own holiday hahaha. It is also a meaningful one because I had just got out of some personal stuff and this trip was a much-needed getaway.
Okay enough small talk, let's get on with the trip! Our flight was at 7.40am from Changi Airport, Singapore so we hung out at the Utusan office till the wee hours then crossed the Causeway at around 3.30am. By the time we reached the airport, we were pretty exhausted because we didn't sleep much throughout.
There were 13 of us, all from the media circle and two brought their spouses. Let me tell you, being a single girl in HCMC is.. nothing special HA! There were no cute guys in sight, save for some expats (but they always have a local girl by their sides). One thing was for sure, there were never a moment short of laughter with this crazy bunch.
Did you know that there's so much to do at the Changi Airport? Once we checked in at the airport we did some art, took pictures at a zen garden, window shopped (at 5am), had some tea and played video games on the console station. :)))

Waiting for our hired cars to pick us up to head across Causeway.

Played Tekken on the Playstation kiosk biyatchh. Don't mind the face, at this point we were quite sleep deprived.

Just before we boarded, this Firdaus (right) came running to me from outside and said "follow me, there's something you'll sure love."

He's right! There was a sunflower garden outside the waiting hall and the sun was just rising at that point.. everything was gorgeous. I remember beaming and thinking that life was gorgeous.

Landed.

Vietnam: where motorcycles everywhere and the sound of horns tooting every few seconds are common.

MMMKAY.

Outside Saigon Square.

After settling into our hotel and freshening up, we took a 3-minute walk to the famous Ben Thanh Market.

Pretty much sums up my diet there - pho and iced Vietnamese coffee.

Night market near Ben Thanh, District 1.
This city is a bustling one that doesn't really sleep. Ok la, it sleeps for a few hours then wakes up super early cos we can hear the sound of tooting horns and people shouting at around 6am from outside out hotel. The food is weird-ish for me and I don't dare to eat much there cos I was scared of eating dog meat by accident wtf (that's all everybody warns me about) and I had to be careful too cos of my sensitive stomach. So it was pho, pho, pho and pho for me.
Will blog about our second day soon!
