But this, I must talk about. If you past by Jalan Trus in town, you won't miss their black signboard with the huge white typography opposite of Kota Raya. The shop's entrance is on lowered ground and when you enter, you'll be greeted with warm lighting and indie music playing in the background. It is opened by two childhood friends Vinc and Edward, both 23, and with a penchant for making coffee. Vinc is an interior designer while Edward is studying to be a doctor. And with that dream, they opened up their pet project, Faculty of Caffeine (FOC).
Vinc runs the cafe for the most part while Edward travels back and forth from studying in KL. One word: dedication.
Here's an interesting fact: all the artwork in the cafe are done by Ed while both designed the interior. A nice touch would be the old tainted mirror facing the entrance which has Chinese characters written on it.

Theirs is a standard breakfast/brunch/bites menu and what they offer is a cosy ambiance for friends to sit and talk. After having a chat with Edward, I am actually inspired by their young ambition to set up a cafe and bring to the people of JB what they believe in. It may not be much, but it's a start.
The cafe is divided into 3 sections, when you enter the front door, that's the main hall where you can sit by the counter. The second section in the middle is where you have a little bit more privacy, with only two tables in there. I like the outdoor sitting area at the back of the cafe, which is the third section. It offers a view of rooftops and in a short distance, Johor Baru's busy Jalan Wong Ah Fook street. I sat on the stool eating my cereal and sipped on my coffee, overlooking the hustle and bustle but at the same moment, feeling the calm and ease. The next time I returned, I brought along my uke and had so much fun just strumming and singing acoustic with a friend outside.
JB needs more places like this. :)
